Lidl Malta

With 8 stores and more than 315 employees, Lidl is the leading supermarket in Malta. We take pride in our great products and customer focus. As well as being able to provide your daily essentials in our stores we also stock a large selection of premium own-brand products, all at the best prices. We started in April 2008 with three stores and this year proudly opened our new concept store in Mosta. Our head office is based in Luqa.

The "Top Employers Institute" has recognised the high quality standards that we have implemented in the management of human resources and has recognized us as "Top Employers Malta" and "Top Employers Europe". This study looked into over 600 best practices in HR: Lidl Malta has proven to offer excellent working conditions, effective training and development courses aimed at our talent at all levels of the company, employee initiatives and advanced Human Resource Management policies.

Our employees are proud to be part of our company and have a strong bond with Lidl. This fact emerged from a company survey made last year: the vast majority of our employees say that they feel part of a big family and that they have established excellent relationships with their colleagues. We are really proud of this result, but we are not resting on our laurels: we want to continue to reinforce the feeling of belonging and the team spirit through a lot of events and happenings dedicated to our personnel!

The training and development of our employees


In Lidl Malta we know for sure that our greatest strength is our team. This is why we favour development and growth inside the company through training programs, both for newly-employed staff and for those already working with us. We follow our employees in their working activity with continuous personalised training courses, developed in order to allow everyone to fully express their potential. Most of our present managers have grown and passed several ranks inside the company, eventually reaching high-level positions.

Corporate Social Responsibility


For many years now Lidl has been active in many areas of environmental protection. Our daily work is characterised by a sense of responsibility from an economic, social and environmental point of view. Economic responsibility for us means operating in a sustainable way. Social responsibility means placing people at the centre of our policies. Environmental responsibility means safeguarding our natural resources in our daily work. This is why we include a large number of eco-sustainable products in our range and we build our new stores in line with environmental criteria, reducing energy consumption and the emission of pollutants. We are also committed to promoting fair trade through our Fairglobe brand, which guarantees products that are socially sustainable from countries in the developing world.

A look at the past


Lidl Malta is owned by the multinational group Schwarz, which was founded in Germany in the early seventies. The very first Lidl supermarket was opened in Ludwigshafen in 1973. After the opening of further stores over the German territory in the seventies and the fast growth in the following decade, from the nineties Lidl began its expansion abroad, developing a network of supermarkets which today is the largest in Europe. In fact, Lidl is present in 30 countries, with more than 200.000 employees, about 10.000 stores and 110 logistic platforms.
